Modelo Sedan
Año 1961
VW Beetle, 1961
Produced in Germany and sent CKD (Complete Knock Down) to Mexico for assembly.
Acquired in Mexico City by Grand Heritage.
ORIGINAL STATE
Although the vehicle was complete, the bodywork had high levels of corrosion and some patchwork.
RESTORATION PROCESS
We started by fully dissembling the entire car in order to identify its parts and to plan the necessary repairs. In the area of mechanics, the original 1100 cc engine needed rectification, ring change, pistons and a couple more parts. Within the transmission system, we gave full service to the steering box.
In regards to the bodywork, practically all the unit required workshop service and the doors had to be replaced due to the disrepair. We replaced them with new ones brought from Brazil.
Before sending the unit to the painting process, we assembled the vehicle once we had the replacement parts ready; ensuring the proper assembly of doors, instrument board, trim, windshield, windows and rubber seals. By doing this we avoided paint damage after the process. In order to restore the car’s original color, we used the color code that matched the manufacture year.
In relation to the chassis, the floor of the vehicle was completely destroyed. We brought the parts from Brazil once we corroborated their inexistence in Mexico. After we restored the car floor, we applied anticorrosive paint to avoid future damage.
Once the car was restored, we started a process to obtain a Match Number certificate from the Volkswagen Museum in Germany. This authenticates the vehicle’s engine number and chassis to its year of manufacture. After two years of dedication, we managed to achieve a 100 percent original restoration of the vehicle, which means that all the parts on it are exactly the same as the original ones in terms of configuration, year and model.
