Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, 1972
Manufactured by Germany for the United States market.
Acquired in Atlanta, GA (United States) by Grand Heritage.
ORIGINAL STATE
We found the Karmann Ghia during a visit to some Brazilian friends in Atlanta, GA. As we walked by we decided to investigate a possible purchase. In order to have it with proper documentation in Mexico, we managed the paperwork and import permits.
RESTORATION PROCESS
After an exhaustive inspection we determined the need to repair certain parts of the bodywork, including a full paint job. We completely dissembled the parts and started with the first step, getting it ready to apply the paint.
We started to assemble certain parts and trims in order to avoid scratch damage to the finished paint job. Once everything was in place, we proceeded with the painting process.
Next step was working with the interiors; we assembled the wood instrument board.
It was also deemed necessary to change all the upholstery, we decided on a custom solution: we designed the car seat covers with a bicolor combination in order to generate harmony. The door covers were brought from Brazil, in black and wood tones.
We did a comprehensive mechanical review and proceeded with the complete assembly. After several operating and driving tests, we concluded the restoration of this beautiful Karmann Ghía, which has participated in two classic car events, obtaining an award in its category.
